The term dyslexia
Dyslexia is to many people a very difficult word, especially to dyslexics. The term originates in
the Greek words 'dys lexis', which can be translated as 'bad reading'. During our
interviews we came across plenty of variations to the spelling
of the word dyslexia, only a few of the interviewees could spell it correctly.
Why has someone come up with the word dyslexia?
The reason is unknown. Sources indicate that the most work related to dyslexia is performed by scientists,
a scientific term seems suitable.
Why not call it word-blindness?
A long time ago someone translated dyslexia as word-blindness. However, when you analyze that word, it
would mean that someone is blind to words and cannot see them, which is not the case. A dyslexic can
see words, but those are
processed incorrectly in the brains.
