Remedial teaching for dyslexics
In addition to biophoton therapy and BrightStar treatment, a remedial teacher may support a dyslexic child. The remedial teacher uses didactic tests to design a teaching program. Many children with dyslexia benefit greatly from this approach. However, a small group shows no or insufficient improvement. These children may apply for an individual specialistic treatment.
The goal of remedial teaching is enabling a child to independently handle reading material. Oftentimes, dyslexic children that have had help for a long time, are less motivated to practise their reading skills and may even avoid reading at all. Together with the child, the remedial teacher looks for a way to make reading more attractive and interesting. By fitting the treatment with the strengths and personal interests of the dyslexic child, the chance of success is increased and their self-confidence grows.
The method
Amongst other tasks, the remedial teacher regularly lets the child write their own texts or stories. This material is the basis for working on reading strategies, spelling and working with the support of a computer. The child is taught how to use the computer, internet, e-mail and speech and spelling programs.Prior to the treatment, these steps are followed:
- Interview with the parents and an analysis of former tests and treatments
- Interview at school with the parents
- First examination comprising: didactic tests to get a view of the current situation and an interview with the child about their strengths and personal interests
- Formation of a therapy plan on the basis of collected data and the interview with the child
- After 8 sessions the progress of the dyslexic child and the question whether the treatment is fitting are reviewed
