Causes of dyslexia
Dyslexia has always existed, but only started to attract attention in children who started learning to read and write and was first examined in 1896.
Concerning the causes of dyslexia there is no scientific consensus. Researchers tend to agree on the following factors:
- (tempo of) phonological processing
- capability of accessing linguistic knowledge
- problems with processing information, especially when speed is required
- difficulty of converting characters (visual codes) into phonetics (autidive codes)
Although dyslexia can be caused by brain damage, by far most of the dysletics are simply born with brain differences. There is no cure available, but it is possible to learn how to handle it better.
